A&N Plant have secured a US$1.5 million contract for the supply of welding rotating equipment for the fabrication of large diameter LPG Storage tanks. This award comes on the back of an equipment supply contract that A&N Group secured in Malaysia in 2004 for a similar large scale LPG "Bullet" Storage Tank fabrication project.
In each case the fabrication method adopted is to build the 70 metre long tanks in-situ at the final installation site using a system of in-line tank rotators that are geared to facilitate the tank sectional welding process in the field and as well as fully supporting the assembled weight of the entire tank. Through the utilisation of this system the completed bullet tanks weighing some 1000 tonnes each will be lowered into final location without a need to move them on multi-wheeled trailers and without a need for super heavy lift craneage.
When we were first in contact with the tank fabricators for these projects we were able to discuss with them the intended build plan and associated work processes. Through the application of our knowledge and our experience in previous tank fabrication projects, we were able assist in a build method that reduced the overall welding equipment requirements, improved the efficiency of the welding process itself and reduced the overall handling and heavy lift requirements of the project.
Moving such large diameter tanks into final location can be very demanding as at 6 metres internal diameter and 70 metres long they obviously require so much space. Through the adoption of a fabricate and install in-situ methodology the overall cost of large tank supply contracts can be greatly reduced as many of the costs associated with executing such a project in two locations are removed from the delivery cost to the client end user.
