A&N Group supports offshore platform construction in the Caspian.....
|
|
|
|
In November 2001 the development of 6 offshore oil production platforms for
the Azeri Chirag Gunshi (ACG) Field in the Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian
Sea started in earnest and led the way for many of the world's leading
offshore construction companies to fully establish their presence in Baku to
meet the required build-up of a local offshore fabrication infrastructure.
|
 |
In support of these major achievements, A&N Plant, the global supplier of
specialist welding equipment, has played a key role in supplying all of the
major contractors in Azerbaijan with a full range of equipment through their
arrangement with SDL Denholm in Baku.
From the SDL depot, A&N Plant supplied to McDermott Caspian Contractors
Inc.; who built the topsides platforms for the ACG Field development, a
range of their welding equipment including H&I Beam Fabrication Lines, CNC
Plate Cutting Equipment, Pipe Shop Equipment, Rotators and SAW Column &
Booms to meet the job demands.
|
|
|
The fabrication of the ACG Jacket leg structures built by Star-Gulf Bos
Shelf; a Saipem Group company, required A&N Plant welding rotators up to
150 tonne capacity as well as a range of FCAW and SAW welding equipment. The
ACG Gas Compression Platform built by the Amec-Tecfen-Azfen (ATA) Consortium
was provided with CNC Plate Cutting Machinery, Pipe Shop equipment,
Rotators, SAW Column & Boom and FCAW Welding equipment.

 |
|
|
The development of the second biggest jack-up gas production platform in
the world for the Shah Denize development was a further endorsement that the
major logistical challenges of building massive offshore structures in the
Caspian region were being successfully met by all participants.
|
|
 |
The jack-up platform built by TMOL, the local Technip led consortium in
Azerbaijan, also required a complete range of heavy duty rotators of 30
tonne, 60 tonne and 100 tonne capacity. A&N Plant were able to fully
synchronise the drive units on these units to meet the final assembly
demands of the massive jack-up leg sections that for logistical reasons were
transported into the Caspian Sea in smaller sections prior to final assembly
by TMOL in Baku.
In addition to other supplies of FCAW, TIG SAW and Pipe Shop welding equipment, A&N Plant and
SDL were able to extend the equipment range and supply TMOL with additional construction equipment
including compressors, lighting towers and access equipment.
|
|
|
Supply of ancillary construction equipment has now opened up new product
sources for A&N Plant and cemented their relationships with other key
suppliers such as Genie and Terex. All the equipment is supplied and
maintained through the SDL Baku depot that can also provide local customers
with on-site operator training.

Brian O'Neill, Regional Business Development Manager for A & N Plant Group,
explains: "Our depot in Baku, has been such a tremendous success that we are
in the process of replicating the facilities in other parts of the Caspian.
We have earned an outstanding reputation for service and supply in the
region by providing our customers with what they need, when they need it, in
an area where equipment supply has previously been quite limited.
